Six Steps to Ultimate Home Heating and Cooling Comfort

Some homeowners think of comfort only in terms of heating and cooling. But, at Lifestyle Comfort Solutions, we use state-of- the- art tools and technology to evaluate your home’s weakness and prioritize an action plan for ultimate comfort. We call it Home Performance and here’s what to consider:

Air-Sealing

You want fresh outdoor air coming into your home. However,  too much conditioned and heated air lost through unwanted gaps, holes, and leaks, costs you money and comfort. Air sealing the home through the proper use of caulk, weatherstripping and expanding foam to seal around doors, windows, plumbing and electrical penetrations, and venting is necessary.  Lifestyle Comfort Solutions uses an infrared camera to locate penetrations in the building’s envelope–the walls, floors, and ceilings–to pinpoint spots which should be sealed.

Attic insulation added without air sealing is largely wasted.

Ductwork

According to the U S Department of Energy, leaky ducts–ducts with holes, gaps, or disconnected runs–waste 25 cents of every energy dollar spent for indoor climate control.  Professional repair through mechanical fasteners and duct sealant is the single best way to improve the comfort of your home or building. Despite its name, duct tape is not the answer! Lifestyle Comfort Solutions puts sensitive equipment–known as a duct blaster or infiltrometer–to scientifically measure air loss in ducts.

Insulation

Attic insulation should have a minimum R-value of 30.  Insulation added to interior walls and flooring may benefits reduce energy costs as well.

HVAC System

Regular, seasonal maintenance is the single best way to protect your investment in your heating/cooling system.  Keep filters changed regularly, according to manufacturer direction.  Regular maintenance generally says up to 30% on energy costs.

When it comes time to replace your heating/cooling system, consider high efficiency models with energy saving features.

Lighting and Appliances

When it comes time to replace appliances, consider EnergyStar rated models. This rigorous standard requires appliances to consume less energy and perform best in class.
